Equinor: considering wind energy for oil fields

(CercleFinance.com) - Equinor and its partners have decided to explore the possibilities of powering two Northern North Sea oil fields by using floating offshore wind turbines, in what could become a world premiere.

They aim to build the world's first floating offshore wind turbines, supplying clean renewable electricity to oil installations, the former Statoil said.

The Norwegian NOx Fund will invest up to 566 million Norwegian kronor (around 70 million dollars) to support the project.

The announcement comes as Equinor is presenting plans for its operations in the Norwegian shelf until 2030, expecting to drill up to 3000 wells during the coming decades and to extend the lifetime of over 20 installations.
