SES: successfully launches two US satellites
(CercleFinance.com) - SES announced on Saturday that it has successfully launched two new satellites for the US market, aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
The two C-band satellites, built by Northrop Grumman, are designed to deliver data, TV and radio services to millions of American homes.
Their launch is part of a request by the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to free up some C-band spectrum to allow mobile network operators to deploy 5G mobile phone services in the US.
In response to the FCC's mandate, satellite operators like SES must reallocate their services by the end of 2023 from 300MHz to 200MHz higher to free up space for 5G.
