Linde: to replace Barclays in STOXX Europe 50 index

(CercleFinance.com) - German industrial gas maker Linde will join the STOXX Europe 50 index, Europe's leading blue-chip index, replacing British bank Barclays, the index provider STOXX said late on Monday.

Now that Linde has completed its merger with US rival Praxair, it has a market capitalisation of 78.5 billion euros. In comparison, Barclays currently has a market value of 28 billion pounds (about 31 billion euros).

STOXX said that this change will be effective when the European markets open on 24 December.

In early trading today, Linde shares were up 0.7% at 143 euros, while Barclays shares were down 1% at 161.7 pence.
