Vodafone: underwater 'hub' to be built in Genoa
(CercleFinance.com) - Vodafone announced on Wednesday that, alongside the American data centre manager Equinix, it will build an underwater digital platform in the city of Genoa, in the north-west of Italy.
The "hub", named "GN1", will serve as an anchorage point in Europe for the "2Africa" submarine cable project, which will link some twenty countries in Africa, the Middle East and Europe from 2023 or 2024.
The project - led by groups such as China Mobile, Facebook, Orange and Vodafone - is set to be one of the world's largest submarine cables, with a planned length of 37,000 km.
