Burberry: ex-Kingfisher CEO appointed as board chairman

(CercleFinance.com) - Burberry said on Friday that its long-time board chairman Sir John Peace will retire and that Gerry Murphy, formerly the CEO of Kingfisher, will become chairman in July.

The British luxury house said it has found a "superb" candidate with extensive experience in the consumer and retail industries.

Currently chairman of sugar refiner Tate and Lyle and private equity group Blackstone, Murphy has served as non-executive director for companies including British American Tobacco and Reckitt Benckiser.

His appointment concludes the process initiated in June 2017 to name a successor to Sir John Peace, who will step down from the board after a tenure of 16 years.
