AstraZeneca: positive results in gastric cancer
(CercleFinance.com) - On Friday AstraZeneca reported positive preliminary results from a phase III clinical trial in the treatment of cancers of the stomach and oesogastric junction.
The datasays that its Imfinzi immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy demonstrated a "statistically significant and clinically relevant" improvement in the pathological complete response (pCR) rate compared with chemotherapy alone.
In the Imfinzi arm, this rate reached 19%, compared with 7% in the control group.
AstraZeneca explains that the trial involved patients with early-stage or advanced (stage II, III and IVA) gastric and oesogastric junction cancers.
These results are due to be presented at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) congress, from today in Madrid.
