AstraZeneca: two new approvals in US and China
(CercleFinance.com) - AstraZeneca announced on Monday that the US FDA has approved Imfinzi for the treatment of biliary tract cancer.
The pharmaceutical company said that the FDA approval is for the treatment of patients with advanced or metastatic biliary tract cancer, in combination with chemotherapy.
Biliary tract cancer is a relatively rare form of cancer that affects approximately 23,000 people each year in the US. It has a very poor prognosis, with only 5% to 15% of patients still alive after five years.
With the combination of Imfinzi and chemotherapy, 25% of patients were still alive after two years in phase III clinical trials, compared to 10% with chemotherapy alone.
