BHP: approves project to extend life of Chile mine.
(CercleFinance.com) - BHP said on Wednesday that an upgrade of a copper mine in northern Chile had been approved, extending its operational lifespan by over 50 years.
The company today announced the approval of capex of 2.5 billion dollars for the so-called "Spence Growth Option" (SGO) project.
The SGO project supports BHP's strategy to deliver "near-term, valuable copper production," said the miner in a statement.
