Orange: teams up with Google for submarine cable

(CercleFinance.com) - Orange today announced that it is teaming up with Google for the Dunant project, a new submarine cable that is 6,600 km long which will connect the United States to France.

It is set to be operational by the end of 2020.

"The Atlantic is home to one of the world's busiest submarine cable routes with a need for connectivity that increases by a factor of two every two years. Dunant will help address the huge demand for data flows and provide quicker and more efficient connections for both Orange and Google customers," explains Orange.

Orange will be responsible for the construction and operation of the landing station on the French Atlantic coast. The group will also provide land links in France. In return, it will benefit from fiber-pairs that have a capacity of over 30Tbp/s each, which is enough to transfer a 1GB movie in 30 microseconds.
