Veolia: signs waste management contract in Australia

(CercleFinance.com) - Veolia has won a contract for integrated waste management in Gold Coast, Australia's second largest local authority and sixth largest city.

The contract has an initial term of seven years, with options to extend to 18 years, which could be worth nearly 500 million euros over the contract's life.

The new contract combines the management of the facilities, recovery and collection, and will optimise the implementation of the current infrastructure across the waste treatment value chain.

Veolia will operate five of the Gold Coast's major recovery facilities, including three waste and recycling centres and two non-hazardous waste storage facilities.

This aims to significantly increase the current recovery rate, starting with an initial increase of 5% by 2025, or 330,000 tonnes of additional household and organic waste.

Veolia will thus enable the city to avoid more than 77,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, the equivalent of removing more than 47,500 thermal vehicles from its roads.
