Total: Saft supplies BESS for Australian gold mine
(CercleFinance.com) - Saft, a Total subsidiary that makes batteries, has announced that it has provided a lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS) for the Agnew gold mine in Gold Fields, an underground operating site in Western Australia.
Total said that this turnkey storage system enables the global energy producer EDL to meet more than 50% of the electricity needs of the Agnew gold mine in Gold Fields thanks to renewable energy.
Gold Fields has signed a 10-year agreement with EDL to build and implement Australia's largest renewable hybrid energy micro-grid. This plant is the first large-scale integration of wind power at a mining site.
