Total: offshore field in Brazil comes on stream.
(CercleFinance.com) - Total announced late on Monday morning that the giant Libra field is coming on stream, a field that is found in ultradeep waters 180 kilometres offshore from Rio de Janeiro, in the pre-salt Santos Basin in Brazil.
This startup is carried out by the Pioneiro floating production and storage unit (FPSO) of Libra, which has a capacity of 50,000 barrels per day. It marks the launch of an initial production phase ("Early Production System") that will generate revenue while gathering technical data to optimise future development phases.
Beyond this initial phase of production, the development of Libra will continue with the forthcoming investment decision on the Libra 1 floating production and storage unit, with a capacity of 150,000 barrels per day. Other production units of a similar size will be invested in the next few years to develop the field's full potential.
