Nexans: Norway orders submarine cables

(CercleFinance.com) - Nexans has announced a contract worth over 18 million euros with Statnett, the Norwegian national transmission system operator, to supply and install a new high-voltage submarine power link in the far north of the country.

The current cable, which was installed in 1977, has exceeded its technical lifetime. Nexans will therefore upgrade the link by installing two 170 kV submarine cable systems that are approximately 8.8 km long at a maximum water depth of 200 metres.

The EPCI contract covers the engineering, supply, construction and installation of the cable systems based on Nexans' proven XLPE technology. The cables will have a life span of 40 years, with their installation scheduled to begin in 2022.
