Nokia: in chipset development deal with Finnish university

(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia said on Tuesday that it has joined forces with Tampere University, the second largest university in Finland, to establish a center of excellence for the development of system-on-chip (SoC) custom processors.

The partnership, which will be based at the university campus, aims to accelerate the introduction of this silicon technology designed for 5G infrastructure into Nokia's chipset portfolio, the telecom equipment maker said in a statement.

The center is expected to open in November this year, Nokia added.

The system-on-chip (SoC) market is expected to grow at over 6% in the next few years, driven by the growing adoption of SoCs in robotics.

Nokia has a close partnership with Tampere University since its innovation centre was located within the university in the 2000s.
