Nokia: private network project for Vale mining group

(CercleFinance.com) - Nokia announced on Monday that it is working with Brazilian mobile phone operator Vivo on the deployment, by the mining group Vale, of a private LTE network at the Carajas open-pit mine.

This project - which is part of the so-called "4.0" industry - should enable Vale to operate autonomous drilling platforms as well as vehicles with automated driving for the processing of minerals, Nokia explained in a statement.

Vale - which plans to use the network for communication between miners - plans to expand the project to other mines currently using WiMax technology.

Nokia says in its press release that it is currently working on private wireless LTE network projects with several mining groups that intend to eventually migrate to 5G technology.
