Nokia: wins 5G deal for automated rail operation in Germany
(CercleFinance.com) - Telecom equipment maker Nokia has won a tender from German rail operator Deutsche Bahn to deliver a 5G-based network for automated rail operation.
The proof-of-concept will test whether 5G technology is mature enough to be used for future digitalized rail operations, the Finnish company said.
By 2021, highly automated trains - with train drivers on board who are responsible for safety - are expected to operate on a Deutsche Bahn 23-kilometre section near Hamburg.
