IAG: January traffic boosted by Latin America

(CercleFinance.com) - International Airlines Group, formed by the merger of British Airways and Iberia, posted a strong rise in January traffic, led by a solid performance for its routes to Latin America and the Caribbean.

Traffic - measured in revenue passenger kilometres - rose by 7.9% from January 2018, while passenger load factor - a measure of how well the airline group fills its planes - was up 0.2 percentage point at 78.6%, IAG said on Thursday.

In all, the company carried 7.7 million passengers over the past month, compared to 7.2 million in January 2018, representing an increase of 7%.

The most dynamic traffic was seen on routes to Latin America & Caribbean (+16.9%), particularly on routes flown by Spain's Iberia.

Last month IAG announced that it did not intend to make an offer for low-cost carrier Norwegian.
