Siemens Gamesa: preferred supplier to big US wind project
(CercleFinance.com) - Spanish-based wind turbine manufacturer Siemens Gamesa said that it has been chosen as the preferred supplier for a massive offshore wind project in the US.
The first offshore wind project to be built in US federal waters - and the largest US project to date - will use Siemens Gamesa's wind turbines, even tough the final number of units and turbine model are yet be determined.
Once online, the project, which will be located off the coast of Virginia is expected to provide enough clean energy to power 650,000 homes, avoiding 3.7 million tonnes per year of CO2 emissions compared to fossil fuel-based power generation.
The installations are expected to be completed by 2026.
