Siemens Gamesa: launches 'largest' platform in industry
(CercleFinance.com) - Wind turbine maker Siemens Gamesa on Wednesday launched a new onshore platform, which the company says is the largest in the industry.
The Siemens Gamesa 5.X platform, which encompasses two turbine models, features the largest unit capacity in the Siemens Gamesa onshore portfolio, at 5.8 MW, and the largest rotor diameters, of 155 metres and 170 metres.
The company said that the 170-metre rotor is the largest in the onshore segment.
The first prototype installation of the 155-metre turbine is planned for mid-2020, and production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2020.
For the 170-metre turbine, production will start in the first quarter of 2021.
