Siemens Energy: hybrid power plant to be delivered in Irelan
(CercleFinance.com) - Siemens Energy announces the delivery of the very first large-scale hybrid grid stabilisation and battery storage plant in Shannonbridge, Ireland.
The proven synchronous capacitor technology uses a generator to which a flywheel is connected. In essence, this is a large "rotating mass" and, thanks to its stored energy, the synchronous condenser provides a power reserve that instantly compensates for frequency fluctuations and enhances grid stability.
At the same time, a large-scale battery energy storage system can store or release excess renewable energy when required.
Battery energy storage will be able to power around 9,500 homes for a full day.
