ON has begun to build a large-scale offshore wind project in the Baltic Sea, the German utilty group said on Thursday.
The energy company said that the first foundations have been laid on the seabed.
The project will see the installation of 60 Siemens six-megawatt turbines.
400 people are currently working on the Arkona project, that will eventually employ up to 600 people during its busiest period.
The Arkona project is found 35 kilometres northeast of the island of Rügen. The wind farm will be able to supply up to 400,000 households with renewable energy from 2019 onwards.
