Bayer: third-quarter performance 'encouraging', group says

(CercleFinance.com) - Bayer said that it has had an "encouraging" performance in the third quarter, which led to the share rising by over 1% in Frankfurt today.

The German drug and crop chemical maker said its earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) rose by 7.5% to 2.3 billion euros.

Third-quarter sales rose by 5.4% on a currency- and portfolio-adjusted basis to 9.8 billion euros.

On a reported basis, sales were up by 6.1%.

Bayer has confirmed its outlook for 2019, as published in February this year, expecting sales of approximately 43.5 billion euros and EBITDA before special items of around 11.5 billion euros.

Bayer said approximately 42,700 plaintiffs were now seeking damages in the US, alleging that use of the company's glyphosate-based weedkiller caused their cancer.

This is well above the 18,400 in August.
