BASF: pioneer in large-scale 'MOF' production
(CercleFinance.com) - BASF yesterday announced that it has become the first company to produce metal-organic reinforcements (MOFs) on a large scale of several hundred tonnes per year.
MOFs offer a high capacity for storing carbon dioxide (CO2), dehumidifying air to control the ambient climate and adsorbing methane, a greenhouse gas.
An initial project was successfully completed for Canadian carbon capture and removal solutions provider Svante Technologies Inc (Svante).
The collaboration between BASF and Svante should help to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in various industrial sectors, including hydrogen, pulp and paper, cement, steel, aluminium and chemicals.
