BASF: builds battery materials factory in Finland
(CercleFinance.com) - BASF has announced the construction of its first battery materials production facility serving the European automotive market in Harjavalta, Finland, near a Nornickel cobalt and nickel refinery.
The site is set to start up at the end of 2020 and will supply around 300,000 electric vehicles per year. It will use renewable energy sources including, hydro, windpower and biomass.
In addition, the German chemist has entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with Nornickel providing for the long-term supply of its cobalt and nickel site from the adjacent metal refinery.
