Linde: EU expected to open in-depth investigation on merger
(CercleFinance.com) - Germany's Linde expects the European Commission to open an in-depth investigation regarding its proposed merger with US-based Praxair, the industrial gas maker said on Tuesday.
The company said discussions with antitrust authorities have resulted in indications that merger clearance of the combination would be subject "to requirements more onerous than previously assumed."
Linde and Praxair said they will continue discussions with antitrust authorities in order to complete the transaction in the second half of 2018.
In Frankfurt, Linde shares were down 2.4% on Tuesday after the news, while Praxair shares were inching up 0.1% in New York.
