Siemens: signs contract with London underground
(CercleFinance.com) - Siemens' rail unit has been awarded a contract to design and manufacture a new generation of tube trains for the London underground, Transport for London said.
On Friday TfL confirmed its intention to award Siemens Mobility a deal of around 1.5 billion pounds (around 1.7 billion euros) to build 94 "Tube" trains that will be used on the Piccadilly line.
Over 700,000 people use the Piccadilly line every day, although its limited fleet size and old signalling technology has recently restricted its ability to increase capacity, TfL said.
