Merck KGaA: announces OLED technology center in Shanghai
(CercleFinance.com) - Merck announced plans to open an OLED display screen technology center in Shanghai, as the German group reinstated its "strong commitment" to China.
Extremely thin, lightweight and energy-efficient, OLED displays are used in portable devices, such as smartphones, digital frames and digital cameras.
The company also signed a strategic collaboration agreement with Alibaba Health, the Internet healthcare unit of China's Alibaba, to provide patient-centric services.
The companies first plan to focus on drug tracking and tracing, and then to jointly explore areas such as pharmaceutical e-commerce and artificial intelligence.
In addition, Merck announced a new partnership with Tongji University, Shanghai, aiming to collaborate on research on treating challenging diseases using genome editing.
As a reminder, Merck has heavily invested in its pharmaceutical production plant in Nantong, China, where a new life science facility is scheduled to be opened in early 2019.
