Novartis: to sell Covid treatments at zero profit
(CercleFinance.com) - Swiss drugmaker Novartis said on Thursday that it will sell a portfolio of medicines for symptomatic treatment of Covid-19 at zero-profit to low-income and lower-middle-income countries.
The portfolio includes 15 medicines from its Sandoz generic-drugs business for gastro-intestinal illness, acute respiratory symptoms, pneumonia as well as septic shock, the company said.
The biosimilar and over-the-counter (OTC) drugs will be made available to governments, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other institutional customers in up to 79 eligible countries, it added.
"Early access to treatment for managing Covid-19 symptoms is critical to preventing healthcare system overload," Novartis said.
