Nestlé: to replace plastic straws with paper ones in Asia
(CercleFinance.com) - Nestlé said on Friday that it will begin using paper straws for its packaged drinks in Indonesia and Malaysia, replacing plastic straws.
In Indonesia, Nescafé's ready-to-drink products, such as Lively Yuzu and Cool Coconut, will have paper straws from the fourth quarter of this year, the Swiss agri-food giant said.
Starting in December, Nestlé will pilot paper straws for its Milo malt drink packs in Malaysia, it added.
These changes alone will avoid the use of a total of 70 million plastic straws across both countries in a year's time, the group said.
Nestlé has recently committed itself to making 100% of its packaging recyclable or re-usable by 2025.
