Barry Callebaut: opens new chocolate factory in Indonesia

(CercleFinance.com) - Barry Callebaut today announces the operational start of its second chocolate factory in Indonesia, located in Rancaekek near Bandung, for the long-term supply of the local agri-food group Garudafood.

In addition to a first chocolate factory opened in October 2016 in Gresik - 800 km east of Jakarta - this new production site represented an investment of 2.8 billion Swiss francs for the Swiss chocolate maker.

Barry Callebaut says it now has 550 employees in Indonesia, a country where demand is still low (around 300 grams per person per year), although which is increasing (+3.8% in 2018, with an average annual growth of +1.4% over 2013-18).
