Walmart: third-quarter operating profit down 5%

(CercleFinance.com) - Walmart reported a lower quarterly profit on Thursday, partly due to a non-cash impairment charge for its international business, with giving a confident outlook for its current financial year.

Operating income fell by 5.4% as the inclusion of India's Flipkart negatively affected operating income, the retailer said.

Excluding the impairment charge, operating income would have increased slightly.

Total revenue increased by 2.5% to 128 billion dollars, with US comparable sales up 6.6%, thanks to gains in market share in food and consumables, including fresh products.

Walmart said it now expects adjusted EPS to increase "slightly" for its current financial year.
