3M: set to stop making PFAS

(CercleFinance.com) - The conglomerate 3M has announced that it has decided to cease the manufacture of perfluoroalkylated and polyfluoroalkylated substances (PFAS) and is working to discontinue their use in its entire product portfolio by the end of 2025.


This decision is based on a thorough assessment of the changing environment, with accelerating regulatory trends to reduce or eliminate the presence of PFAS in the environment and changing stakeholder demands.

3M expects to incur total pre-tax charges of about 1.3 to 2.3 billion dollars, including 0.7 to 1.0 billion dollars in Q4 2022, which are primarily non-cash and related to asset impairments, as a result of these actions.
