McDonald's: March sales hit by Covid-19 outbreak
(CercleFinance.com) - McDonald's has posted a sharp fall in worldwide sales at its existing restaurants in March, with the COVID-19 outbreak wreaking havoc on its business.
Same-store sales at McDonald's restaurants globally fell 22.2% in the past month, albeit with sales at the company's US restaurants open at least 13 months down just 13.4%.
The world's biggest fast food chain has also missed sales expectations for the first quarter as a whole, with sales at established restaurants having fallen by 3.4% over the first three months of the year.
Even so, McDonald's shares were up 0.5% in early Wednesday trading after this update.
Approximately 75% of the group's global restaurants are operational, the company said, with the majority of them having adapted to focus on drive-through, delivery, and/or take-away options.
