J&J: Covid vaccine validated by FDA

(CercleFinance.com) - The US FDA has given its go-ahead for the single-dose Covid-19 vaccine developed by Johnson & Johnson, the lab reported at the weekend.

The FDA's decision is based on data from a Phase III study that showed the vaccine to be 85% effective in all study areas 28 days after injection.

Johnson & Johnson is committed to making its Covid vaccine available on a not-for-profit basis in case of emergency. The company says it has started shipments and hopes to vaccinate 20 million people in the US by March.

The company also plans to deliver 100 million single injection vaccines to the US in the first half of 2021.

Johnson & Johnson also announces that it has applied to the European Medicines Agency to market its vaccine in Europe soil and to the WHO, for it to be filed on an emergency use list.

In addition, phased submissions for the single-dose COVID-19 candidate vaccine have been launched in several countries, J&J said.
