J&J: EU opens in-depth probe into Tachosil acquisition

(CercleFinance.com) - European Union antitrust regulator started on Thursday an in-depth investigation into Johnson & Johnson's proposed acquisition of hemostatic patch Tachosil, saying the deal could reduce competition.

The move could hinder competitors' ability to enter or expand their activities, which could also result in higher prices, less choice and less innovation, the European Commission warned in a statement this morning.

Johnson & Johnson is a leading supplier of haemostats, life-saving products used to manage bleeding during surgeries, and Tachosil is Europe's leading haemostat for the most problematic bleeding situations, Brussels pointed out.

The Commission now has 90 working days, up until 10 August, to decide whether the acquisition is likely to significantly reduce competition.
