GE: over 20m dollars funding for future wind power

(CercleFinance.com) - GE announces that one of its teams of engineers at its research laboratory in Niskayuna, New York has received 20.
3 million dollars in funding from the US Department of Energy to accelerate the design and testing of a new superconductor wind generator.

The GE Research team is working on the design of a lighter, more powerful and smaller generator. We have been successful with MRI systems on many occasions and believe that we can do it with wind power as well, it said.

Currently, generators typically use one tonne of permanent magnets for every megawatt of power, GE says.
