Ford: fourth-quarter US vehicle sales fell 9.8%

(CercleFinance.com) - Ford Motor's US sales sell by 9.
8% in the fourth quarter, reflecting falling demand on the auto market due to the coronavirus crisis.

The number two US carmaker said Wednesday it sold 542,749 vehicles in the last three months of 2020, down from 601,862 in 2019, as falling truck and sedan sales outweighed gains in the SUV segment.

However, retail sales recovered 5.3% in December, Ford said, thanks to the launch of the all-new F-150 pickup truck, Bronco Sport SUV and Mustang Mach-E sport car, with Ford saying that it is now "well positioned" to see the benefits of its efforts in 2021.

Overall, US car sales are expected to be near 14.4 million in 2020, down roughly 15% compared to 2019, putting 2020 on par with 2012, analysts at Cox Automotive said.
