eBay: 'in active discussions' regarding classifieds unit

(CercleFinance.com) - eBay is "in active discussions" with several parties regarding a potential transaction for its classified-ads unit, the online auctioneer said on Monday.


For the record, the strategic review of the classifieds business is part of eBay's broader portfolio review, which recently resulted in the sale of its ticket unit StubHub for 4.05 billion dollars in cash.

Hedge funds such as Starboard - one of eBay's largest shareholders - are pressurising the company into separating from its classifieds business to create value for shareholders.

The San Jose, California-based company said it expects to provide an update on this process by the middle of the year.
