Apple: Brussels sends list of objections to Apple Pay

(CercleFinance.com) - The European Union's competition authorities announced on Monday that they had sent a list of objections to Apple, judging that the company was abusing its dominant position in the mobile payment markets.

The European Commission believes that the Californian company is restricting competition in this market by limiting access, from its devices such as iPhones, to a standard technology for making contactless payments in shops using the "NFC" system.

Brussels says that it is challenging Apple's decision to prevent mobile wallet application developers from accessing the necessary NFC hardware and software on its devices, in favour of its proprietary solution, Apple Pay.

A statement of objections is a formal step by which the Commission informs companies suspected of anti-competitive practices in writing.
