Amazon: signs Volkswagen as cloud customer

com said that German auto giant Volkswagen has signed up for its cloud computing business Amazon Web Services (AWS), in a prestigious win for the Seattle-based company.

Under the multi-year, global agreement, AWS will power Volkswagen's industrial cloud, automating all automobile manufacturing and logistics processes.

Volkswagen will use AWS' IoT, machine learning, analytics, and computer services to increase plant efficiency, improve production flexibility and increase vehicle quality.

The Volkswagen industrial cloud will bring together real-time data from all of the Volkswagen Group's 122 manufacturing plants, Amazon said.

Over time, the ecosystem will integrate over 30,000 facilities and 1,500 suppliers and partners in Volkswagen's global supply chain.

Alongside this news, Standard Bank, one of Africa's largest lenders, has also selected AWS as its preferred cloud provider, Amazon said.
