Amazon: shares jump on record holiday sales

com jumped by almost 10 percent on Wednesday after the e-commerce giant released "record-breaking" sales data for the holiday season.

Without disclosing specific numbers, the online retailer said customers purchased millions more Amazon devices this holiday season compared to last year.

The best-selling Amazon devices this holiday included connected speaker Echo Dot, and media streamer Fire TV Stick 4K with Alexa remote, the company said.

In the U.S., more than one billion items have been shipped for free this holiday with the premium subscription service Prime, it added.

Amazon shares rose 9.5 percent to 1,470.9 dollars Wednesday, after having touched a record of 2,050.5 dollars this autumn.
