Amazon: signs Guardian and Openbank as cloud customers

com said US insurance group Guardian has signed up for its Amazon Web Services, picking AWS as its "preferred cloud provider."

As part of the deal, the 158-year-old mutual insurance company will be migrating production workloads to AWS, including data analytics platforms, customer portals, and direct-to-consumer services.

The move means that Guardian will close its owned and operated data centers.

Today Amazon also announced that online bank Openbank, a subsidiary of Spain's Santander, is now running its website, mobile application, and core banking system on AWS for its 1.3 million customers in Spain.

Openbank now plans to expand internationally using AWS' infrastructure by replicating the system across different geographic regions.
