AMD: continues collaboration with Microsoft

(CercleFinance.com) - AMD announced on Thursday that it will continue its collaboration with Microsoft in the field of "cloud", i.
e. remote computing.

The chipmaker said that Microsoft Azure will become the first public cloud provider to deploy accelerators from its AMD Instinct MI200 architecture for high-performance computing (HPC) and artificial intelligence (AI).

Microsoft plans to use them to run heavy machine learning workloads.

The software giant also plans to work with AMD and PyTorch, the machine learning library built by Facebook (Meta Platforms), to optimise the level of performance offered to PyTorch users on the Microsoft Azure platform.

This aims to ensure that developers working on PyTorch projects can benefit from the features of AMD Instinct accelerators.

AMD also announced on Thursday that it had completed the acquisition of the start-up Pensando Systems, which specialises in chips for the network edge, for 1.9 billion dollars.

AMD shares closed up about 6.5% yesterday, while Microsoft shares benefited less, closing up 1.3%.
