Ericsson: to prepare Taiwan's APT network for 5G

(CercleFinance.com) - Ericsson has been selected by Taiwanese mobile operator Asia-Pacific Telecom (APT) to modernize its communications infrastucture and prepare for a 5G non-standalone network, the Swedish telecom gear maker said.


Under the terms of the agreement, Ericsson will provide high-performance radio access network (RAN) equipment.

Non-standalone 5G means that 5G deployment relies on an existing 4G LTE network for major features.

The deal also covers the migration of APT's operations support system (OSS), Ericsson said.

Last year, APT and Far EasTone Telecommunications announced a partnership to provide 5G services in Taiwan.

Thanks to the contract, Ericsson now has 124 commercial 5G agreements with communications service providers globally, of which 74 have been publicly announced.
