Ericsson: wins 5G telecom deal with MTN South Africa

(CercleFinance.com) - South African premium telecommunications network provider MTN has picked Ericsson to build its new 5G network, the Swedish company said on Thursday.


Ericsson has been selected by MTN South Africa as a 5G network modernization vendor, meaning that the telecom gear maker will supply 5G products and solutions.

As part of a three-year deal signed earlier this year, Ericsson has also been chosen to modernize MTN's existing LTE and legacy radio access networks.

This is aimed at accelerating MTN's digitalization ambitions in the expanding South African market.

5G commercialization is planned between 2020 and 2022, MTN said.
