Equinor: wins bid to operate New York giant wind farms

(CercleFinance.com) - Equinor has won a bid to provide New York State with offshore wind power in one of the largest US renewable energy awards to date, the Norwegian company said late on Wednesday.

Yesterday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Equinor as a winner in the State's latest large-scale offshore wind solicitation.

Under the deal, Equinor and bp will provide 1,260 megawatts of renewable offshore wind power from two different farms.

The first asset, called "Empire Wind," is located 15-30 miles southeast of Long Island and spans 80,000 acres, with water depths of between 65 and 131 feet.

The second, "Beacon Wind," is located more than 60 miles east of Montauk Point and 20 miles south of Nantucket, covering 128,000 acres.

Equinor and bp last year formed a strategic partnership for offshore wind in the US, with bp becoming a 50% partner in the Equinor-operated Empire Wind and Beacon Wind projects.
