Ahold Delhaize: initiates new stock-repurchase program

(CercleFinance.com) - Ahold Delhaize on Wednesday said that it has authorised a new 1 billion euros share-repurchase plan, which the Dutch retailer expects to start at the beginning of 2020.


The company said the purpose of the program is to reduce capital, by cancelling all or part of the common shares acquired through the program.

Analysts at Paris-based Invest Securities say that this plan comes as "no big surprise" considering the excess cash that the group generates (up to 2 billion euros of free-cash flow per year).

Also, this program reflects the "succesful merger" between Ahold and Delhaize, the analysts said.

The Ahold Delhaize share is currently up 0.8% on Euronext Amsterdam.
