Ahold Delhaize: plans to double online sales by 2020

(CercleFinance.com) - Ahold Delhaize wants to double the amount of sales that it makes online by 2020, with the Dutch-based retailer investing to personalise the shopping experience and extra capacity for online platforms.

At the group's AGM that is being held today in Zaandam, Netherlands, CEO Dick Boer said the company expects to generate almost 5 billion euros in online sales in 2020.

By comparison, Ahold Delhaize's online platforms saw sales increased by over 20% to 2.8 billion euros in 2017, of which 1.2 billion euros came from online food sales.

By 2020, the group also intends to have 50% of its own-brand sales coming from healthier products, such as fresh products.

Today was Dick Boer's last AGM as CEO, as he is planning to step down in July.
