STMicro: partnership with Volkswagen's software unit

(CercleFinance.com) - STMicroelectronics has announced the upcoming launch of a joint System-on-Chip (SoC) development with Cariad, Volkswagen's software unit, for the German carmaker's new generation of vehicles.


Together, they are developing customised components for connectivity, energy management and remote software updates to make the vehicles fully software-defined, secure and ready for future developments.

Alongside this, the partners are working on an agreement whereby TSMC will manufacture system-on-chip wafers for ST, securing the supply of chips for Volkswagen vehicles years in advance.

STM seems to be benefiting the most from this deal - up 5% this afternoon, while VW shares are failing to get off the ground.
