Telecom Italia: towards an offer on a Brazilian operator?

(CercleFinance.com) - Telecom Italia plans to file - through its Brazilian subsidiary - a takeover bid on Nextel Telecomunicacoes, the fifth largest mobile operator in Brazil, according to Bloomberg, which cites closely related sources.


Such a deal could be discussed at the company's next board meeting on 24 September, and in the event of approval, advisors could be appointed to consider a potential bid.

The US media adds that this acquisition would seek to strengthen the Italian group's presence in the Brazilian market, where fierce competition is keeping prices down, and while it is facing headwinds in Italy, due to the arrival of Iliad.
